Welcome

Welcome to “Searching4employment.  My name is Doug.  I’m a Senior Quality Assurance Analyst in the working world.  To make it simple I test computer software.

You may have guessed the theme for this blog in its title.  You are correct!  My vision for this blog is to discuss the search for a job during these difficult economic times.  I’m not interested in how the previous job was lost, that’s over and done with.  Let’s look ahead, what I want to talk about are the ups and downs of searching for a new job.

I’ve been unemployed since January of 2008, with the exception of 9 weeks during the spring and early summer when I had a short consulting assignment.  The first 5 months of unemployment were tough but I had some money saved and of course the unemployment check.  Since I’ve been back in the world of unemployment I’ve noticed a much different environment.  Many more unemployed and fewer available jobs in my area of expertise.  What I want to know is what is everyone else seeing?

Again I want to focus on the job search and all that surrounds that.  I realize we all have a story as to why we’re unemployed but that’s really not important now (unless your suing).  I’ll write about what my search is like, what barriers I come up against, what I found that is positive, and of course the negative.

I look forward to comments for others in a similar position to mine.

DSK
